Are the start and finish times in your tasks correct anywhere you are?
Tasks in bCommunities include an expected start and finish date and time. The task creator inputs the time in their own time zone and the task resource, or other bCommunities users with rights to see the task, see them in their own time.
For instance, Ann, a project manager in Barcelona, creates a task with a deadline of Monday, January 19 at 5:00 PM. She assigns the task to Matt, a designer who lives in San Francisco.
When Matt receives the email notification, he sees the expected delivery time is 8 AM in San Francisco time.
|Location||Local time||Time zone||UTC offset|
|Barcelona (Spain - Barcelona)||Monday, January 11, 2016 at 5:00:00 PM||CET||UTC+1 hour|
|San Francisco (U.S.A. - California)||Monday, January 11, 2016 at 8:00:00 AM||PST||UTC-8 hours|
|Corresponding UTC (GMT)||Monday, January 11, 2016 at 16:00:00|
How This Works
Every time a user logs into bCommunities, the app reads the current time set at the user's computer. If the user's Mac or Windows device is set for San Francisco's time, bCommunities will adjust its internal UTC offset to -8.
If Matt travels to the East coast, the time in bCommunities will adjust to that region should he choose to change his computer's time zone and IF he logs into bCommunites from the desktop app or his preferred browser.
If Matt never logged into bCommunities in the past, that first task time will be off. He will be assigned, by default, a UTC offset of 0. So all his tasks will show a wrong start of finish time until he actually logs in bCommunities for the first time.
Also, keep in mind that email notifications are a snapshot of the time reflected in the task at the time it was sent. If you change time zones, those email notifications before you traveled will be wrong. If you log into your bCommunities account, the timezone shown in the app itself will be correct.
